[ Soooo, there was that draft. Not a nice time whether you were called in or volunteered in. Red's not either sure if Karis went or not, it's hard to remember all the names as he goes checking on people, but... nevertheless. ]
Hi, Karis. Do you remember me? It's Red. I just wanted to how you've been doing. Are you okay? We're all okay here... But if you're having a tough time relaxing or anything, Venusaur can help. She can even leave a nice smell where you live and it really soothes people down. Do you remember from the party? That's the power of her flower.
But-- anyway, I hope you're okay! And - you don't have to respond. Just take care.
[Oh Karis did get sent off, in the first wave of people. She was fairing surprisingly well, so far, since she's very used to war scenarios.
Although, Red suddenly contacting her was something she didn't expect.] Don't worry, I remember you Red, as well as all your Pokemon! [Who doesn't remember anything like them?]
I've been pretty swell lately, though I think I've been getting way too much sleep. [That draft did leave her pretty exhausted...] Though I'll be sure to take up that offer of having Venusaur's scent calm me down whenever it's needed. [And it will be needed in the future.] But, uh, I don't know where you live, so it's kinda hard to just drop on by!
[ ... Karis you are the most (sincerely??) cheerful sounding person yet. That totally throws a kid off! He takes a moment, but- ]
I'm staying at a friend's place. Do you remember where the party was? There. But you can call me by journal if you ever need me or my pokémon for anything. We can always come to you too!
Ah, you live there? Well that'll be easy to remember! [Because that's where all the tuna sandwiches were eaten in one go. That was the true, traumatizing experience.] Well, if you come to me, you'll be able to find my apartment room in the Ice building, floor five, room number twenty-two. [She's the only one on that floor...]
Heh, I've been sleeping like a log! Though I've almost skipped breakfast for how late I wake up now. [Well, pretty swell when you disregard the one time she felt like she was being watched.]
Well, I don't blame anyone else for not being able to sleep. Things like the draft have a tendency to hit people pretty hard if they've never experienced something like it before. [She's gone through major battles back at home, though not to the same degree. Karis knows what to expect, and even more so now with the Third Party.]
[Karis doesn't exactly want to share her experiences with Red, as she's not sure how well he'll handle them, but...] Drafts? The recent one was my first, however, I've been in some pretty bad scenarios back at home. They were similar to the draft, but not as...severe.
Hmm. It can be. It all depends on your location and who you associate with. [She pauses.] A few of the galactic empires are pretty good places to be in, for civilians. Though if your military or a pirate, well, that can really switch things up on you.
Right! Because galactic is like galaxy isn't it? [ He's spoken to Luke Skywalker, he kind of got that! ] But do space pirates do the same thing as-- water pirates?
They're far more than just a galaxy. It's more like several for some of the empires. [Well, very few really.]
Pirates are sorta like that! They do rob banks, and ambush United ships to steal their goods. [And kill all the members on the ship, but she'll leave that part out.] Oh, United is the government of the human galactic empire by the way. [Let's not talk about them.] Some pirates even have feuds against one another. There's also a band of pirate lords, you could say they're second in command in a way, and above them is the pirate king!
[ Isn't a galaxy just like space anyway!? How is there several...! But there's definitely a bigger thing to be concerned about here. ]
So there's a lot of space pirates where you live? No wonder why it's so bad... we have people like that too where I'm from, but it's not so big. I don't think, anyway.
[ He doesn't really know how to compare the two, but Team Rocket certainly don't terrorise multiple galaxies. As far as he knows. ]
Ah, space pirates are not as bad as you might think! They really only attack governments that are corrupted and have done a lot of awful things in the past, and in the present. Sometimes, they're called freedom fighters! [Well, that's what the crew she's with does, as well as a few others.] They get a bad reputation due to all the propaganda that's spread about. A lot of bad things that may happen are not their fault, in fact, they're often blamed for crimes they don't commit!
Ah, those people where you're from...they wouldn't happen to be Team Rocket would they? [She remembers Ash mentioning them before.]
Well, I've heard they're striving toward world domination or something like that. [You can just hear her rolling her eyes in that sentence.] And there's some that are pretty persistent, but have failed and failed again on trying to get Ash's Pikachu.
I don't anything about that... maybe they are trying to run things in other regions. [ He comes from a small town after all. ] But the Team Rocket I know, they really are bad. They take trainer's pokémon and wild pokémon too. They kill them and sell them, all for profit.
They don't care about what they do, and they like doing it.
[That actually gets Karis to remain silent for a moment.] By the archmages...
[She may not know much about Pokemon, but she knows that they're rather intelligent creatures.] That would be like...killing and selling anyone for profit in my world... [She can think of one group that does both, and another that only kills for profit, that being United.] I believe my world's black market does that...it's a horrible thing.
[ He's a little glad for that reaction, compared to how she sounded before about them. ]
Me and Ash come from different worlds. When we talked about them once, it sounded kinda different... but we didn't talk about them a lot. [ Anyway. ] But before I came here [ or a long while before that ] there was a town they'd gone to, Lavender Town. They went there and took pokémon called cubone and marowak so they could sell the skulls they wear. They left a baby cubone behind after killing its mother, and -- they do all kinds of horrible things like that.
[ They're just big and bad and everything wrong. ]
So who cares if a group think they're doing the right thing? Team Rocket think they're doing the right thing too. People who steal are still criminals.
[Again, she is silent. The talk about how a child's mother was taken away from them...it struck a chord, in a way. Just like how she lost her father, but she never knew him. The Cubone though, it knew it's mother...]
[She regains some of her composure, but her voice is definitely much quieter now.] You're right, they're still criminals... [And that includes her, but she never enjoyed what she's done, but that's no excuse.] The ends don't really justify the means... [But sometimes, those means are the only choice someone has, at least, that's how she feels about the situation back home.]
Right... but if there's governments that really are corrupt, then they're bad as well. [ He huffs, the shaking of his head not visible on the other side. ] I just don't like people who ruin things for others!
Unfortunately, there's a lot of people like that, and we can't really do much depending on who they are. Larger groups are hard to dismantle, especially when they're governments, who knows how many people may support them, and that support might make all the difference between winning and losing. [She lets out a sigh.] Then again, if it's the other way around, who knows what sort of advantage you might have.
Can't people just-- band together and stop them? It's scary, but what's good letting any of those things continue? [ It makes him think of back home in a way he's never thought about. ]
Some people think they can't do anything, but... I don't know. Anyone can make a difference if they try.
[ He never minded it, really, going against Team Rocket. But someone could have always tried it sooner. ]
